Shapes what comes to your mind when you hear the word?? I guess some structures like that of a square, rectangle etc well these geometric patterns are also known as shapes.

It plays a very vital role in graphic designing. For instance, a certain geometric shape arranged in a profound pattern gives a very sophisticated look to our design.

Shapes In Basic Form

Shapes are 2-dimensional square, cylinder, rectangle, triangle, cylinder, cube, sphere, rhombus etc. its categorized into 3 types.

Shapes-In-Basic-form

  • Geometric – It includes certain lines drawn in a pattern such as square, rectangle, cube etc
  • Organic  – We have got certain patterns and shapes in our environment as well. Now those shapes are known as organic shapes, such as those of sun, rivers etc.

Organic part can be divided into two groups :

  • REGULAR – Regular include such as that of the sun (circle), mountains (triangle), and the moon (circle, semi-circle) this kind of shape mostly made up a basic geometric part, like a square, circle, triangle, and rectangle.
  • IRREGULAR – Irregular mostly include irregular patterns such as the river, waves of sea or ripples in the river, branches of trees, flying birds, etc. Shapes are mostly categorized for which we see around in our environments like that of the branches of the trees, shapes of fruits, river valleys, the structure of various leaves, petals of flowers and many more things which we see around us in our environment.
  • ABSTRACT  – Abstract doesn’t include any basic shapes it has a variety of structures, patterns, showing a concept. Now a days abstract drawing have been a demand as it gives a wide range of imagination to its viewers serving their curiosity and imaginations. it can be better understood as CONCEPTUAL SHAPES.

To add defined structure, texture, rhythm, depth and even various movements in a design. There are many software like Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDraw etc. Which gives fully fledged freedom to a designer to work on his ideas?
